Taiwan Loop
The Taiwan Loop is the journey around the island on bike or scooter. Some also do this by train, car or even on foot and thus the journey can take 5 days or 50. Most common is a 7-14 day Taiwan loop with daily rides of 4-6 hours.
It is also known as 環島 or Huandao.

By Bike
You don't mind riding a bike for 5-7 hours a day and for a total of 12-15 days? Then do the Taiwan loop on a bicycle!
Find like minded people to go with you! Some of the way are separate bike paths and beautiful nature, but you also have to cross cities on Taiwan's west coast quite frequently with their insane traffic. Many agree that the most beautiful areas are the southern tip south of Kaohsiung, the eastern mountain or coastal routes from Taitung to Hualien and a possible detour to Sun-Moon Lake.
By Scooter
Riding a scooter or an electric scooter around Taiwan allows you to do more detours and explore more in less time. The stronger scooters can also go up into the mountains, while the 50ccm scooters might lack power and the electric scooters might lack range to really explore Taiwan's magnificent central mountain range. Some places rent scooters for about 600-700 NTD per day.

The West Coast
Taiwan's west coast is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, especially the northern part of the west coast from Taichung to Taipei that is home to about half of Taiwan's population. In Taipei area, you have some of the best bike infrastructure, but further south you have to share roads with cars and this can get dangerous. So be very careful about this.
The East Coast
Many Loopers prefer the East Coast with its stunning scenery, much less population and rough terrains. Here, the mountains meet the sea.
You have to make a decision to ride along the coast, or a bit further inland. Please read up on the pros and cons of each.
There is no free lunch though: The east coast gets more rain than other areas of Taiwan and the risk for earthquakes is greater. Parts of Taroko National Park are still affected by the earthquake that hit in April 2024 and are not accessible.
